More Google Changes
As a business owner or entrepreneur, you read and hear about it all the time. SEO, search engine ranking, get to the first page of Google. If you are in a populated area with lots of competition and only a handful of spots on the first page, some of witch are paid to be there, is it realistic that 100 real estate agents could make it to the first page if everything is done right? Of course not! And let’s say you get there, there’s no guarantee you will get visitors to your site from that 1st page placement.
For the small business, or one just starting out, the hundreds to thousands a month for SEO may not make sense. That’s not to say that SEO is bad or not needed, but like any form of marketing, it isn’t a guarantee. Even if visitors start showing up at your site, if they don’t like what the see or can’t find what they are looking for, they’re gone.
Instead of focusing a ton of energy on SEO to start with, have a website that is SEO friendly. In other words, have a site that Google and the others will favor.
How is this done? Fairly simply:
– Responsive Website (the site adjusts to work well on whatever device accesses it).
– Fast site load times
– Great content related to your business and/or sites main theme
– A reasonable amount of content that isn’t too long or too short
– Great images (graphics and photos)
– Video
Google is now favoring mobile friendly sites over desktop sites in their ranking. That doesn’t mean they won’t list desktop sites, it simply means that the mobile friendly sites will have better ranking. Why take the chance, make sure you have a website that is responsive. Having a responsive website means that your website is friendly to mobile and desktop! And don’t think that if you can get to your non-responsive website with your smartphone that it’s mobile friendly, that simply isn’t the case. If you are scrolling around, pinching and expanding as website while viewing on your phone, that is a good sign it’s not mobile friendly.
